Kitsikakomiim

Iinii Insights

Kitsikakomimm is a beautiful Blackfoot word that translates to "spreading our love around you". At the Niitsitapi Learning Centre, we cherish a special song called Kitsikakomimm, written by Olivia Tailfeather. Throughout the year, the melody fills the air as our students enthusiastically drum along. What makes this song even more meaningful is the personal touch that Sandra Many Feathers taught us years ago - adapting the lyrics to incorporate the names of individual children, making each one feel seen, heard, and loved.

Calgary Flames Classroom Crew

Stampeders

We were thrilled to host the Calgary Flames Classroom Crew program at Niitsitapi Learning Centre and it was an incredible experience for our students!

Brought to southern Alberta schools by the Calgary Flames Foundation, the Classroom Crew delivered engaging, high-energy physical education sessions that had students moving, learning, and having fun all week long.

Over the four days, students participated in:
🏒 Floor Hockey on February 2 & 3
🏈 Flag Football on February 4 & 5
✨ Including an exciting player visit from members of the Calgary Stampeders, which made the experience even more memorable!

A huge thank you to the Calgary Flames Foundation for bringing this amazing opportunity to our school. We hope to welcome the Classroom Crew back again in the future!

Kitsikakomimm Day- Valentine’s Day

As Valentine’s Day approaches, we want to ensure everyone is on the same page regarding our class Valentines Day, Heart, Hands, Februarycelebration. At Niitsitapi Learning Centre, we believe in spreading kindness, connection, and joy and Valentine’s Day is a wonderful opportunity to do just that.

If you would like to contribute, you are welcome to send Valentine’s cards for your child to share with classmates on February 11. We encourage children to sign their own names at home before bringing the cards to school, so everyone feels included and part of the celebration. If you’re able, please feel free to send a few extra cards to help spread the joy even further.

Please know there is no obligation to participate every child’s presence, kindness, and enthusiasm are what truly make our class special. Your child’s joy and sense of belonging are the greatest gifts of all.

Report Cards

Kindergarten to Grade 9 report cards will be available starting Feb. 24, 2026.

Parents and Guardians can sign in to MyCBE to view student information, including report cards, comments from your child’s teacher, assignments and grades, and attendance information. For the best access to information, log in through the MyCBE portal instead of using the PowerSchool App.

    Lacrosse Opportunities in Our Community

Our students have been enjoying learning lacrosse at school, and we wanted to share a great opportunity for families who may be interested in continuing this sport outside of school hours.

    Local Lacrosse Registration

    • Lacrosse in Calgary is organized through the Calgary District Lacrosse Association (CDLA), which is made up of 9 local member clubs.
    • Season registration happens through your local member club, not directly through the school.  City of Calgary Club Map Zones.
    • Registration deadlines are approaching, so families interested are encouraged to explore their local club options soon.

Support with Fees – KidSport and the Roughnecks EvenStrength Program

    • Families may be eligible for KidSport funding, which can provide up to $500 per child, per year toward sport registration fees.
    • For our younger learners at Niitsitapi, lacrosse fees are capped at $300, meaning eligible families could register at no cost.
    • This is a wonderful option for families who may need financial support to access sports programming.

Extra Exciting News for U7 Players

    • CDLA partners with the Calgary Roughnecks.
    • All U7 players will be known as “Lil Roughnecks” and will receive a free lacrosse stick and jersey this season.
