Health & Wellness at the CBE
At the CBE, we believe in a whole school approach to health and wellness. We call this our Comprehensive School Health (CSH) approach. CSH is about healthy eating, active living, supportive social environments and positive mental health. As a system, we focus on the following four areas: healthy eating; healthy relationships; physical activity; and positive mental health. Each school creates its own approach and goals for health and wellness.

Healthy Choices
Niitsitapi Learning Centre followsCBE Administrative Regulation 3047 - Nutrition, which promotes healthy eating and well-being. Families are encouraged to use the Alberta Nutrition Guidelines for Children and Youth when choosing foods and drinks for school.
Healthy food helps young children grow, learn, and feel their best. In the early years, eating habits support brain development, attention, behaviour, and lifelong health.
Please Avoid Sending Unhealthy Foods and Drinks
To support learning and well-being, we ask that students do not bring foods or drinks that are high in sugar, salt, or fat. Examples include:
- Candy, chocolate bars, or sugary treats
- Sweetened drinks like juice boxes, soda, or energy drinks
- Chips, fries, or highly processed snack foods
- Fast food meals
How Our School Supports Healthy Eating
- 🥣 Breakfast program available to all students
- 🍽️ Lunch program provided daily to all students
- 🍎 Healthy snacks offered throughout the school day
These meals and snacks are designed to support young bodies and developing brains with the nutrients they need to learn and play.
We are proud to partner with Mount Royal University student nurses as part of our Comprehensive School Health Initiative. Together, we promote healthy nutrition, physical activity, and overall wellness of the Mind, Heart, Spirit, and Body.
How Families Can Help
If you choose to send food from home, please aim for:
- Fresh fruits and vegetables
- Whole grains
- Dairy or dairy alternatives
- Lean proteins
- Water or milk (instead of sugary drinks)
By working together, we can build healthy routines, support learning, and set children up for lifelong wellness. Thank you for your continued partnership and care.
