Buffalo, Prairies, Mountains,

Iinii Insights |

At this time of year, Blackfoot Territory enters a time of colder weather. Days become darker, and Grandfather Sun provides less warmth. Anita Eagle Bear has shared that November's full moon is when the cold weather arrives, iitaoi'tsstoyi. As the crisp air settles in, the land transforms into a canvas painted with deep hues of brown and gold, as the last leaves of autumn dance their way to the ground and the snow begins to fall.

The once-bustling rivers and streams now flow with a quiet serenity, their surfaces shimmering under the fading light. Wildlife begins to prepare for the harsher days ahead; animals seek shelter or gather food as part of their age-old instincts. The elk herd is often seen moving to lower elevations, following trails carved out by years of migration.

The time for reflection deepens, as the community turns inward, fostering connections and preparing for the challenges and blessings that winter will bring. As the moonlight casts a silver glow over the snow-dusted landscapes, there is a sense of tranquility and resilience that envelops Blackfoot Territory, reminding all who dwell here of the intricate dance of nature, and the importance of living in alignment with its rhythms.

Elder Visit Ms. Shirley

Last week we were honoured to welcome our Ms. Shirley, who brought along Lemon Bear for a special visit! Together, they shared teachings about smudging and taking care of our spirits. Students learned that smudging helps us start fresh clearing our hearts, minds, and spaces so we can walk in a good way.

We’re grateful for these moments of laughter, learning, and connection with Ms. Shirley and her wise little helper.

Fall Break

Fall Break will be November 10-13 We wish our students and families a restful week. This is a special time to slow down, spend time with loved ones, and connect with the land.

🌾 Listen to the stories the wind and Mother Earth tells.
👵🏽 Visit with family or Elders and share laughter, food, and teachings.
🎨 Create or reflect in ways that honour who you are.

May your break be filled with warmth, pride, and connection. 💛
