The upcoming spring equinox, will indicate the beginning of a new season. Once again, Na'toosi (Grandfather Sun) and Kokomikisomm (Grandmother Moon) will share the sky equally, providing a balance of day and night. Motoyi (spring in Blackfoot) is a time of renewal and new beginnings. After a season of rest, the land comes to life with new growth, movement, and sounds. Green grass appears, the rivers thaw, beavers emerge from their winter lodges, and buffalo calves are born. For the two-leggeds, it is a time of awakening as well. Elder Casey Eagle Speaker has reminded us what a gift it is to witness life at the very beginning, to feel the energy of Na'a and come to understand her interconnectedness and our place within it. Elder Casey and Saa'kokoto have shared that in traditional Blackfoot ways, the First Thunder signals a time for sacred practices and ceremonies to begin. This initiates a time of preparation, a time of gathering when the roots, berries, and medicines provide for Niitsitapi again.

Scholastic Book Fairs are engaging literacy events that provide kids the chance to choose what they want to read! With bestselling titles, series, and beloved characters, students of all ages and reading levels can connect with stories that entertain, inspire, and delight. A carefully curated selection of books and items are made
available to your school, giving families the opportunity to enhance their home library, while earning Scholastic Dollars for their school.
Every purchase at a Scholastic Book Fair contributes Scholastic Dollars to the hosting school. Whether you are looking to refresh your school library, support the expansion of classroom libraries, furnish maker spaces, or purchase curriculum support, Scholastic Dollars can help to supplement school budgets to benefit all students. Scholastic Dollars can be redeemed on books at your Fair, on valuable school resources from a number of Scholastic catalogues, or on promotional items to help promote your school’s upcoming Book Fair.
We are looking for 3 volunteers to help run the program. You’ll get a $25 voucher
We also have a raffle draw as you visit the fair. $25 for parents and $25 for teachers

Food Hamper Pick Up during Student Led Conferences
We're excited to share that we've received a generous food hamper donation from a corporate supporter of the Calgary Police Youth Foundation. Each family will receive one hamper filled with essential items including fresh fruits and produce, bread/pitas, eggs, and butter/margarine. These items will be packed in an apple box, approximately 20” wide x 14” length x 12” tall, weighing around 30-35lbs.
Due to the size and perishable nature of the donation, we kindly ask for support from parents/caregivers to pick up the food hampers on the delivery date. Hampers will be delivered and available for pick up during Student-Led Conferences on March 21 (4:30 - 7:30 pm) & March 22 (9:00 am - 12:00 noon). If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the main office.

Family Cookbook Submissions
We're seeking recipes to create a Niitsitapi Family Cookbook. If you have a family recipe to share, please send it to Ms. Harmony at htjeffery@cbe.ab.ca along with your child's name. Students will assist in illustrating, and we aim to publish the cookbook for the end 2023/2024 school year.
